Nagpur, Maharashtra | 24 Aug 2025 – Satnavari, a village in Maharashtra’s Nagpur
district, has
been officially transformed into India’s first AI-driven Smart and Intelligent Village,
setting a new benchmark for rural digital transformation. The initiative, developed
under a collaborative public-private framework, showcases how indigenous technology and
last-mile connectivity can unlock access to education, healthcare, governance, and
economic opportunities in rural India.
At the core of this transformation is Indio Networks, whose connectivity
infrastructure serves as the digital backbone enabling all smart village applications.
By deploying a robust, scalable Wi-Fi network across key locations in Satnavari, Indio
has laid the foundation upon which advanced digital and AI-enabled services now operate.
Rural India continues to face significant connectivity challenges, including limited 4G
and 5G coverage, high fiber deployment costs, and fragmented digital infrastructure.
These gaps restrict access to essential services such as online education, telemedicine,
digital governance, and modern agricultural tools. Prior to the project, Satnavari faced
many of these constraints, reflecting a broader national challenge.
The Made-in-India solution aligns with national digital initiatives such as Digital
India and PM-WANI, enabling villages to access broadband services without the complexity
or expense of traditional telecom rollouts. This connectivity layer now supports every
digital service operating in the village.
With a strong network foundation in place, Satnavari now supports multiple intelligent and citizen-centric applications, including:
These services collectively improve quality of life while creating new economic and social opportunities for residents.
The project was delivered through the VoICE (Voice of Indian Communication Enterprises) consortium, which brought together multiple Indian technology companies, each contributing domain expertise. While partners enabled AI, analytics, and application layers, Indio Networks ensured that all solutions were built on a reliable, secure, and scalable connectivity infrastructure, making seamless integration possible.
Satnavari has been officially inaugurated as India’s first Smart and Intelligent Village, with the Government of Maharashtra acknowledging Indio Networks’ pivotal role in enabling the project. More than 50 villagers are already active daily users of the Wi-Fi network, and the initiative is being viewed as a reference model for rural digital transformation nationwide
Smartnavari marks the beginning of a larger vision. With the VoICE consortium and Indio Networks’ connectivity solutions, the model is expected to be replicated across thousands of villages, accelerating the creation of a digitally empowered and connected Bharat.
