Indio Participated in International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Initiative Focused on Connecting the Unconnected

Delhi, India – Indio participated in engagements with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), contributing to the global dialogue focused on connecting the unconnected and accelerating digital inclusion across underserved regions.
As part of the engagement, Rishi Ghare, CEO of Indio, was interviewed by ITU, where he shared insights into the company’s practical work in delivering rural connectivity across India and other emerging markets. The discussion highlighted how Indio has leveraged affordable, cloud-managed Wi-Fi infrastructure to extend last-mile internet access to communities beyond traditional fiber networks.
A significant part of the conversation focused on Indio’s participation in India’s PM-WANI (Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) framework. Through PM-WANI, the company has supported scalable public Wi-Fi deployments that empower local entrepreneurs, enable digital access in villages, and strengthen rural broadband penetration.
To address connectivity gaps in geographically remote areas, Indio has partnered with satellite operators to integrate satellite backhaul with its Wi-Fi access solutions. This hybrid connectivity model allows reliable internet delivery in regions where fiber infrastructure is unavailable or economically unviable. By combining satellite bandwidth with centralized cloud management, the company has ensured consistent performance, simplified network monitoring, and sustainable operations in challenging terrains.
During the ITU interview, Ghare emphasized that rural connectivity is not merely about infrastructure deployment, but about creating an ecosystem that supports education, healthcare access, financial inclusion, and government service delivery. Open standards, interoperable systems, and cost-efficient hardware were identified as key enablers in building scalable digital infrastructure for underserved populations.
Indio’s engagement with ITU reflected its continued commitment to supporting global digital inclusion goals through field-tested, policy-aligned, and partnership-driven connectivity models. By integrating public Wi-Fi frameworks, satellite connectivity, and open networking technologies, Team Indio continues to contribute to bridging the digital divide at scale.
